Turquoise Treasures: Honduras – Guatemala – Belize

Multi country journey
On this guided tour, you will see all the absolute highlights of the Mayan World, designed by our expert on this ancient culture to cover Honduras, Guatemala and Belize!
In San Pedro Sula, you’ll visit the Anthropological museum, a great base for the exploration of the Mesoamerican and Mayan cultures.
Copan Ruinas, our next destination is where you’ll visit one of the most decorated Maya cities ever known. The local artists left no surface untouched when decorating the town’s plazas, temples and stone monoliths! The stelae and hieroglyphs found here tell us the story of kings during the golden age of the Maya empire, and our guide will elaborate deeply on the subject!
We continue to Guatemala and we visit Antigua and the lake of Atitlan. This is where we can see how Maya culture survived colonial times, and how today’s people keep their inherited traditions alive. We will visit Mayan shaman, a Mayan deity, and learn about the food, culture and impressive textiles of a variety of language groups in the region.
In the north of Guatemala lies Tikal, one of the most famous Mayan cities, with exceptionally high temples towering over the vast jungle, where we stay and learn about the abundant wildlife. Nearby Tikal offers the lesser visited cities of Yax Ha and Xunantunich, just across the border in Belize. On some occasions, we’ve been the only visitors here, enjoying exceptional views on relatively easy-to-climb temples!
We leave the Mayan sites behind and end the journey with a well-deserved stay on the beach of Ambergris Caye, one of the Caribbean islands of Belize—a haven for snorkelling, diving and wildlife watching. Departure is from Belize City, just a speedboat journey away, across the turquoise-coloured waters of the Caribbean!
