Overzicht

A small country on the Pacific coast of Central America is becoming the new destination for the adventure minded traveller as well as those focused on wildlife and leisure. The culture and history of the country are fascinating. The Mayan village of Joya de Ceren, covered in lava mud and now excavated is a unique site only ever found in EL Salvador amongst other temple cities such as Tazumal. Huge volcanoes can be climbed, either walking easily accessible trails or more difficult hikes, El Salvador has many nature Reserves to explore all over the country.
The region famous for its Ruta de las Flores (flower trail) is truly a great example of colonial village life that is pretty much untouched. Visiting a variety of villages you can learn about the importance of coffee for the history of the country, and enjoy the typical fruits and foods of the area in local markets and meet the local population. With almost every building containing mural arts, this region is probably one of the most colourful places in Central America.
The city of Suchitoto is a definite must on your itinerary. Probably the best place to learn about the history of the country, combining nature, culture and gastronomy. The small city is located at the lake of Suchitlan, which is a true hotspot for birdlife. Either by boat or kayak, a huge variety and quantity of birdlife can be spotted in just a few hours.  Meet Suchitoto´sfriendly people like the 98 yr old cigar rolling lady, talk with Don Rafa, an ex-guerrilla leader in the Cinquera Nature Reserve, climb the basalt rock waterfall of Los Tercios, or relax enjoying beautiful sunsets over the lake.
The very modern capital is very much worth a visit. Bishop Romero´s shrine, the fascinating church of Rosario completely decorated with scrap material, the anthropology museum, and the lookout point are some of the highlights in this city.
We have a set itinerary you can have a look at, but there are many options to add, have a look and let us help you organize your trip to this magical country.
