Highlights

Your first night will be spent in San Jose, the most modern and safest capital cities of Central America. After a good night rest you will cross the country to the caribbean coast to the Wild life Reserve of Tortuguero, best accesible by boat.
On your included tours in Tortuguero, you will learn about the turtle conservation in the area and depending on the time of year could witness the nesting or hatching of baby turtles. The canals of the National Park have a wealth of birdlife, water reptiles and sometimes we see otters, monkeys, and even feline species have been observed in the area.
From Tortuguero we leave the tourist track to visit Bajos del Toro, where you spend two nights in a wonderful lodge floating like a cloud in the rainforest canopy near the Poas Volcano. Our lodge is one of the most secluded, tranquil and relaxing luxury hotels in the Costa Rican mountains. The eco resort was created to be a luxury retreat for travelers who seek out authentic experiences and a deep connection to nature. Explore its hummingbird gardens, waterfalls and enjoy this piece of unspoilt cloudforest Costa Rica is proud to have.
Another active volcano awaits, the Arenal Volcano still feeds many thermal springs, surrounded by magical vegetation. On clear days the view of the volcano from our lodge is breathtaking. From Arenal we visit the Cano Negro for a river safari. On this nature and wildlife boat tour, you’ll take a peaceful ride in a covered motorboat along Rio Frio to appreciate the beautiful flora and fauna of one of the most biologically diverse areas in Costa Rica. The Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge encompasses an area of about 10,000 hectares near the border with Nicaragua. The wildlife in this area is truly spectacular, especially the birds! It’s one of the few places in Costa Rica where you can catch a glimpse of the exotic Jabiru Stork, the tallest flying bird found in Central and South America. Other species in the area are wood storks, cormorants, and other varieties of birdlife.
We continue our journey to Rio Celeste an excellent spot for birdwatching. The ecosystem of this privately owned reserve is one of the most bio diverse of the Pluvial Life Zone providing many endemic characteristics in animal and flora species. Examples are the rare Tody Motmot or the Black Faced Ant Thrush. Tanagers, Toucans, Parakeets, Parrots, Hawks or wood creepers can also easily be observed in the area.
We move west to Rincon de la Vieja volcano in the dryforest of the Guanacaste area. This unique dry forested area where monkeys, deer, anteaters, wild cats, agoutis, white nosed coatis and birds can be spotted. Spot the colourful motmot and the white throated magpie jay that are abundant in the region. The area is great for hiking. an option is to visit national park Rincon de la Vieja with a naturalist guide. During this hike you can see volcanic activity along the 3km long ‘ Las Pailas’ trail. You can see bubbly mudpits, steamy lakes and boiling geisers. Other great options in this area are horseriding or a guided hike to waterfalls in the area. All rooms at our lodge in Rincon de la Vieja have private decks or balconies with great mountain views and breathtaking sunsets. The climate here combines the Guanacaste dry and sunny weather with the fresh air of the mountains.
The thermal springs with hot pools, the volcanic mud and the natural steam-room will add to the relaxing atmosphere of this retreat in the highlands. You can take advantage of the curative properties that have long been attributed to mineral rich waters and mud-pots.
Your private driver will drive you to the cloud forest of Monteverde. This area is one of the best places to explore on foot. Enjoy the endless variation of plants, trees and wildlife, You might even spot the colourful resplended quetzal with it’s long green tail feathers. Other animals you can find in the cloudforest of Monteverde are sloths, monkeys, wild cats, tucans, raccoons, armadillos, foxes, the bellbird with it’s bell-like sound and you might see the swallow tailed kite flying overhead.
